Allison Gilbert is the author of Always Too Soon: Voices of Support for Those Who Have Lost Both Parents (Seal Press, 2006) and is co-editor of Covering Catastrophe: Broadcast Journalists Report September 11 (Bonus Books, 2002). She has written for numerous newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, and is now a frequent contributor to The Huffington Post. Her latest book, Always Too Soon, sparked the nationwide creation of Parentless Parents, a network of parents who have experienced the loss of their own mothers and fathers. Allison is also a public speaker addressing grief, recovery from loss, and the bonds that hold families together.

When not writing books, Allison is an Emmy award-winning television news producer, most recently at CNN in New York. Her work includes coverage of the September 11th terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the Supreme Court Nomination hearings of John Roberts.

Before this assignment, Allison was a special projects producer at WABC-TV, also in New York. At Channel 7, she was producer-in-charge of the station's coverage of the 2004 Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden and oversaw all pieces for the station's lead anchors during President Ronald Reagan's State Funeral and the second inauguration of President George W. Bush. Before this assignment, she was an investigative producer with WNBC-TV New York and also helped launch MSNBC as a writer and special assignments producer.

Her stories have included investigations into the alleged racist business practices of a major U.S. bookseller, the ineffective national toy and product recall system and an in-depth analysis of the often deadly impact domestic violence has on innocent bystanders.

Allison’s work has also been honored by the New York Association of Black Journalists, the Associated Press, and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Allison graduated from Georgetown University and lives in New York with her husband and their two children.
