An Emmy award-winning journalist for more than three decades, Allison possesses the unique ability to break down complex content into captivating story ideas that editors, reporters, and producers want. Whether you’re planning a hyper-local media campaign based on your book’s themes and content, lining up in-person and virtual events, or delving into specialized writing areas like grief and biography, Allison is your go-to expert.

Allison is the author of five books. Her latest work, Listen, World! (Hachette Book Group: 2022), is the first biography of American writer Elsie Robinson. The New York Times raves “One does not tire of spending time with Elsie Robinson” and the Wall Street Journal proclaims the book “an important contribution to women’s history.” Allison makes frequent TV and radio appearances, with interviews on CBS Sunday Morning, NPR, CNN, and more. Her writing ranges from deeply reported stories of women’s unknown histories to traumatic experiences of grief and loss.

Laura is a sought-after literary agent with Wendy Sherman Associates. Laura specializes in adult nonfiction with a focus on women’s issues, intelligent pop culture, counterintuitive self-help, packaged gift or “concept” books, and books that take us on geeky deep dives into fascinating facets of everyday life. She adores history, biography, and celebrations of literary legacies, especially when they offer fresh stories about women. She also represents select upmarket fiction.

Memoir and Nonfiction Coaches

Abby Santamaria and Kate Buford work with writers at all stages, from crafting outlines to editing complete manuscripts. Their specialties are memoirs, biographies, and family histories. Abby and Kate are here for all your ghostwriting, book doctoring, and nonfiction book proposal editing needs. (They’ve earned 6-figure advances for their narrative nonfiction book proposals!) Pub Day clients are able to work with Abby or Kate individually or as a team. We can help you decide the best route based on your needs and budget.

Abigail Santamaria is the author of Joy: Poet, Seeker, and the Woman Who Captivated C.S. Lewis (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2015), and the forthcoming, I Am Meg: The Life of Madeleine L’Engle (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). She is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholar grant, a Sustainable Arts Foundation award, and a Leon Levy Center for Biography fellowship. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Vanity Fair and “Literary Hub,” among other publications. Abby earned a MFA in nonfiction writing from Columbia University.

Kate Buford’s award-winning Native American Son: The Life and Sporting Legend of Jim Thorpe (Knopf 2010; U. of Nebraska 2012) was an Editors’ Choice of the New York Times. Her bestseller, Burt Lancaster: An American Life (Knopf/Da Capo/Aurum UK), was named one of the best books of 2000 by the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and many other publications. Buford has been a commentator on NPR’s “Morning Edition” and American Public Media’s “Marketplace.” Kate attended Trinity College, Dublin and graduated from Columbia University with a degree in library science.

Emi Battaglia is a PR powerhouse. She is an expert at launching national book campaigns and getting authors featured across all media – TV, radio, print, podcasts, and digital. Emi’s secret sauce includes getting titles picked up by book clubs across the country.

Emi is a literary junkie with more than two decades of experience in the publishing world. She has served as Director of Marketing and Publicity for Regan Arts and Vice President, Associate Publisher, and Marketing Director at Grand Central Publishing (formerly Warner Books). Emi has worked with an array of accomplished authors and icons, including Martha Stewart, Nicholas Sparks, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, the estate of Martin Luther King Jr., Jack Welch, Kitty Kelley, Michael D. Eisner, Maria Shriver, Bill Gates, Michael Moore, David Baldacci, Brad Meltzer, Nelson Demille, Ellen DeGeneres, Carole King, Rocco DiSpirito, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jane Goodall.
