Pub Day is a boutique literary consultancy that helps emerging and established writers realize their book publishing goals. Through private coaching and hyper-focused, one-on-one phone/video consultations, we help clarify book ideas, craft and edit manuscripts, and write book proposals. We offer guidance on landing an agent and oversee strategic campaigns to drive media attention and speaking engagements for newly published books.
Founded by critically-acclaimed author Allison Gilbert and developed in collaboration with literary agent Laura Mazer, we are publishing insiders you can trust. With our combined expertise and years of experience in the literary world, we have the knowledge to help you navigate the complex landscape of book publishing.
We want writers to know they have friends on the inside of the book publishing industry. Everyone who works at Pub Day – from editing proposals to directing publicity – wants to make the book publishing industry a little less opaque and daunting. Whether you’re just starting out or determining the best strategies for getting attention for your latest book, we’re ready and excited to help.
An Emmy award-winning journalist for more than three decades, Allison possesses the unique ability to break down complex content into captivating story ideas that editors, reporters, and producers want. Whether you’re planning a hyper-local media campaign based on your book’s themes and content, lining up in-person and virtual events, or delving into specialized writing areas like grief and biography, Allison is your go-to expert.
Allison is the author of five books. Her latest work, Listen, World! (Hachette Book Group: 2022), is the first biography of American writer Elsie Robinson. The New York Times raves “One does not tire of spending time with Elsie Robinson” and the Wall Street Journal proclaims the book “an important contribution to women’s history.” Allison makes frequent TV and radio appearances, with interviews on CBS Sunday Morning, NPR, CNN, and more. Her writing ranges from deeply reported stories of women’s unknown histories to traumatic experiences of grief and loss.
Laura Mazer is your key to understanding the ever-evolving publishing marketplace. She knows what editors and agents are seeking right now and can help polish your concept before submission.
Laura is a sought-after literary agent with Wendy Sherman Associates. Laura specializes in adult nonfiction with a focus on women’s issues, intelligent pop culture, counterintuitive self-help, packaged gift or “concept” books, and books that take us on geeky deep dives into fascinating facets of everyday life. She adores history, biography, and celebrations of literary legacies, especially when they offer fresh stories about women. She also represents select upmarket fiction.
Wondering if you’re ready to seek an agent? Laura can provide the guidance you need to take that critical next step.
